Strzelecki outback tour 2012

Andrew and Sally Smith from South Australia were delightful participants on our 2012 Strzelecki Outback tour. Andrew composed these songs.

To the tune of Augathella Station/Brisbane Ladies and to the earlier, Spanish Ladies:

We scan and we score like true Aussie birders,
We scan and we score as onward we push.
The birds they are calling,
The heat’s not appalling,
It’s flaming good birding in the old Aussie bush.

We went night-time spotting, the quail kept on trotting,
We’ve seen inland dots, we may see them again.
But the best of all sights, when caught in the lights
Was that rare little bird that goes wandering the plain.

We rant and we roar like true Aussie birders,
We rant and we roar with Trish and with Phil.
The food it was great and the driving first rate,
The Maher-vellous duo has top bird-tour skill.

Shirty Hymn of the Birder

To the tune of Glory, Glory, Hallelujah!

My nose has smelled the glory of the freshness of the shirt,
I have squeezed out all the soap-suds, I have scrubbed out all the dirt.
I haven’t sniffed at all my mates - their feelings may be hurt,
But my stale sweat has gone.
Glory, glory soap and water,
Glory, glory, soap and water,
Glory, glory, Hallelujah!
The birder marches on …
